Adult Basic Education

Overview

Adult 10

The Adult 10 program is designed for people who want to enhance life skills, independence and self-sufficiency. The knowledge, skills, and attitudes gained in secondary education are important for those who wish to enter or re-enter the labour force, who need retraining, or who wish to advance in a chosen career.

The five required courses at the Adult 10 level are Communications, Social Sciences, Life/Work Studies, Mathematics and Science.

Learners who complete ABE successfully go to on further education, training, or employment opportunities.

Adult 12

The Adult 12 program is designed for people who want to enhance life skills, independence and self-sufficiency. The knowledge, skills, and attitudes gained in secondary education are important for those who wish to enter or re-enter the labour force, who need retraining, or who wish to advance in a chosen career.

Compulsory courses for Adult 12 (secondary completion) are:

  • English Language Arts A30
  • English Language Arts B30
  • One Canadian Studies course (Social Studies 30)
  • One level 20 or level 30 science
  • One level 20 or level 30 mathematics
  • Plus 2 electives at the 30 level (one credit may be granted for work experience)
  • This Grade 12 credential is recognized by employers and post-secondary institutions. Graduates who complete Adult 12 successfully go to on further education, training, or employment opportunities.

Is ABE for You?

  • Did you leave school before completing Grade 12?
  • Do you wish you were eligible for more jobs or training?
  • Do you need pre-requisites for post-secondary education?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above then Adult Basic Education is likely your right choice.

Student Testimonial

“I chose Parkland College because I wanted to go back to school. The best thing about the College is the assistance from the teachers when needed and the friends I made in school.

I would recommend Parkland College because it is a great place to learn.”

– Stanley Denomie
